Direct Stock Purchase
General September 10th, 2009
Most people use an intermediary to purchase a stock, like an online stock broker. But it is possible to make a direct stock purchase from some companies. For some reason, I think I remember two companies that did that off the top of my head — Disney and Playboy. Most of the time when you purchase stock you never see the actual shares. The broker handles it all for you. Sometimes though, you will actually take possession of the actual shares of stock. I know for my corporation, I am the only stock holder and have issued myself stock. I got it direct from my company. You’d probably want to keep any shares of stock that you own in a safe deposit box for safekeeping in case of fire or theft.
