How to Get Rid of a Wet Carpet Stain
General August 17th, 2009
One of the best carpet cleaning tips I ever received was when I first started cleaning carpets. I was taught how to clean wet carpet stains. People are always spilling things on their carpets and depending on what they spill this can be a very difficult thing to fix.
We’ll use a pop spill as an example for this article. Pop is not something you want to stain your carpet. Being sticky and full of sugar it is very damaging to your rugs, because it attracts sand and dirt. Sand and dirt have a major impact on the life of your carpet so it was very important for me to learn how to clean these types of stains.
So how do you clean your carpet when you spill soda on it? First, you can take a damp cleaning cloth, shamms work great, and try to soak up some of the stain. The wetness of the cloth should help wet the stain making it easier to remove. Dab and gently rub the stain along the surface of the carpet.
The one thing you should NOT do is scrub vigorously. By scrubbing hard you push the stain into the carpet padding. Once the padding dries it will push the stain back up into the carpeting. This is called “wicking”. It acts just like a wick acts with an oil lamp. Anyone can use this gentle technique and it should help spruce up your carpeting.
