What Are The Different Carpet Types?

Different carpet types vary in how they are constructed. If the carpet is made from strands of yarn I have been pulled through the carpet backing twice to form loops, it is called loop pile carpet. Cut pile carpet has been individual strands stand up instead of loops.
A popular style of loop pile carpet is Berber carpet. Berber carpet is made from loops of different heights which create a textured pattern.
Some cut pile carpets have twisted fiber such as frieze carpet. This gives frieze carpet a curly surface texture. The surface of Saxony cut pile carpets is smooth even though they also have twisted fibers.
Plush, also called velvet cut pile, have a smooth, level surface texture. Cut and loop carpet pile may be combined in some different carpet types.
Carpet also varies in density. Carpet there need for high traffic usually have high density meaning that the carpet fibers are placed very close together. Some cheaper carpets have lower density. When closely examining the carpet, if the backing of the carpet can be seen, the carpet has low density. High-density carpet is resistant to crushing.
The twist of the carpet fibers also affects the susceptibilities to crushing. The more tightly a carpet fiber is twisted, the less likely the carpet is to develop crushing them matting.
Different carpet types have different fibers. One type of extremely strong fiber that is resistant to signs of wear as nylon. Nylon carpets are often much cheaper than carpets made from other fibers.
Acrylic fibers are resistant to suddenly feeding, stain resistant, and may have different texture appearances. Olefin is a light carpet fiber that is hard wearing, stain resistant, and resistant to fading from sunlight.
Polyester carpet fibers are very strong and easy to clean. Carpeting made from wool fibers is fire resistant, durable, and easy to clean.
Carpet runners are narrow strips of carpet usually less than four feet wide. These are used in hallways and on stairs. Wall-to-wall carpeting is used to completely cover the floor of a room. Carpet squares are small sections of carpet that are installed to cover the entire floor of a room.
