Why i chose a Toshiba NB2005 as my portable mini netbook?

General September 1st, 2009

That’s a question i asked myself more than a year ago, when i got my first netbook. At the time it was a 9″ Asus EEE PC, not good enough to replace my laptop. But these days things have changed a lot, and my Toshiba Mini NB205 is my new portable companion, while my old notebook lays in its bag for a couple of months now.

I chose the Toshiba back in spring this year because it offered me:

  • a good balance between size and weight: has a 10″ screen and weights just below 3 pounds
  • a nice 10″ screen with a 1024 x 600 px resolution, offering a decent working area but still just not enough
  • good battery life: around 7 hours
  • durable and good looking, and most of all, not glossy like the other similar devices

Of course the little beast has a couple of faults, like a poor webcam and speaker (only mono), but frankly i couldn’t care less, cause i don’t use those anyway. As long as the screen is OK (and this one is), the keyboard and touchpad are usable and the battery life is above 6 hours, it’s fine by me.

Still, in the meant time, i tested a couple of 11.6″ netbooks , like the new Asus 1101HA and i think i might go for a bigger netbook in a couple of months.
